in Hawaii's music industry...

Jon Yamasato, formally of the group “Pure Heart”, and
Justin Young, a soloist, debuts their first album entitled “Y2J”.
This album is a result of the positive vibe between them during previous
collaborations and from the encouragement of families, friends, and
fans.
Jon and Justin first collaborated
on a song entitled “Let Me
Take Tonight” on Justin’s third solo album and another
entitled “Gonna Meet the Clouds Again” on Justin’s
fourth album. With the success of both collaborations, it only seemed
natural that these two artists record an entire recording project
together.
“Y2J” is an exciting and wonderful mix of originals
and remakes of previous hits. “It’s Enough”, “Echoes
of a Legend”, “Represent Right”, “She Loved
Me”, “Looking for Me”, and “I’ll Take
Care of You” are originals composed by Jon or Justin. Popular
songs previously recorded by Gregory Isaacs and Bob Marley are also
featured. A Motown favorite, “Would I Lie To You”, demonstrates
the versatility of Jon and Justin.
“Y2J” also includes two songs performed by Jon that
were composed by one of Hawaii’s most prolific songwriters,
Dennis Kamakahi. “Kou Aloha Mau A Mau” is a remake of
a Sons of Hawaii hit and features ukulele virtuoso David Kamakahi
(Dennis’s son). “Ua, Ua, Ho’e’ele” makes
it debut in this album which features accompaniment by Dennis and
David Kamakahi.
The combination of Contemporary,
R&B, Reggae, Alternative, and
Hawaiian music makes this album unique and enjoyable. Jon and Justin
present a varying approach to music from a wide spectrum. Their chemistry
is based on mutual admiration of each other’s style, abilities,
respect and friendship. Enjoy! |
